S1
The evolution of any group of successful young talented men usually comes with an interesting and compelling story. The S1 story is an evolutionary and transitional tale that will spark future controversy while luring the curious minded into a never ending docudrama with sequel after sequel, and their story hasn’t even been written yet. Over the last 4 years S1 has electrified thousand’s of screaming fans, touring nationally with the Black College Expo and several Los Angeles area school tours including the renowned S.E.A.P. School Tour. Among their many accomplishments, S1 has been featured twice on Myspace.com’s, Featured Music Artists page, and was selected from many thousands of emerging artists, to be featured on MyCokeRewards.com and Dominos.com’s D’Tracks. The release of S1’s first Album, self titled “S1” garnered them a distribution deal in Japan and has sold over 5,000 units overseas, including a loyal fan base in Germany.
The S1 of 2008 has evolved to become arguably, the hottest new Urban Hip Hop and R&B group to appear on the music scene in some time. A hybrid anomaly, S1’s combination of ingredients just works. The chemistry between these guys is simply undeniable and their bond, unbreakable. Kjae, TraXX and ShayDot have one thing in common; their need to step outside the box; not for their tone or style, as much as for their ability to think beyond the boundaries of today’s commercial music.
Rob Jay
Rob Jay, born Robert J. Mayberry IV, has been blazing through the underground circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Dubbed by many as the fearless lyricist, he brings an insight and intelligence to the craft of hip hop that is a rarity in today’s music scene. Hailing from Houston, Texas, Rob Jay attended Florida A&M University and graduated with a degree in business administration before moving to Atlanta. While in school he found a passion for directing music videos which eventually lead to him starting a production company, Shyve Entertainment Group. He quickly grew his company and seemed poised to make a run at being one of the top music video directors in the game. Throughout his three year career he worked with clients including Lil Scrappy, Bonecrusher, and Vibe Magazine. Though he progressed as a director, artistically he began to feel unfulfilled. “It just seemed like all the videos that I was doing were the same, girls, cars and money. I felt like I wasn’t growing as an artist. The other thing that I hated was always having to wait on someone. I was always waiting on someone to get their record deal, or get their money right, or get their schedule together to do a video. I just got tired of waiting, that’s when I figured hey I can record my own music and shoot videos for those songs. At least I know that they will get done and they will be something original.” This led to him recording his first single “Party Girl” a warning to men and an intelligent ode to women who want to live the socialite lifestyle. What started out as a mission to record one song soon became the development of a conceptual album, Art Life.
Art Life chronicles Rob Jay’s mission to find fulfillment through creating a product that allows him to sustain as an artist. Throughout this mission he finds himself talking about everything from spirituality to entrepreneurship to politics before completing his vision of securing the Art Life not only for himself but for his generation. “I really feel like I have my finger on the pulse of my generation right now” says Rob Jay. His short term goals are getting his music distributed and spreading his Art Life message to as many people as possible.
Brotha Bill & the Mack Paye Band
One of the newest inductees into the neo-soul renaissance is Brotha Bill, whose debut CD is set to drop in January 2003. Those who have experienced his fusion of poetic verse and energetic R&B funk are sure to cherish the kinetic vibe in their own home. Reminiscent of a basement jam session, he performs with a five-piece band who indulges in a moment of euphoria as if caught in the rapture of nature’s elements. The guitar licks streak like lightening across a bass horizon only to be followed by a thunderous vibration of drums. The percussionist ignites the bongos with the precision of an African tribesman belting out a call and response. The keyboardist leads the frenzy of ostinato and just when it comes to a hilt, they pause on one beat: Brotha Bill has commanded the mic.
Brotha Bill’s essence is a lyrical flow that sets him apart from other neo-soul artists. His style emanates from the heart of Soho circa 1974, replacing the airy afro with a twist-like coif and manicured sideburns. His eclectic outfits compliment his slim 6’2 frame. Even his gait exudes the confidence of a conscious, provocative man who seeks to empower the people through his mission. “My music has a cool, hip message to wake up the mind.” Cognizant of the trailblazers of the past, he creates his own suave style but for a more tangible reference, think Lenny Kravitz’s charisma, Maxwell’s sultriness, Bootsy Collin’s funk and Marvin Gaye’s mystique.
Claiming Gary, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois as hometowns, Brotha Bill has steadily improved his craft in the LA entertainment scene for the past four years. His music career was spawned at an early age upon matriculation to Emerson Visual and Performing Arts High School. Soon after graduation he formed a group, Black to Black, that was nurtured by notable manager Jimmy Newton. In 1999, Brother Bill and prominent producer/engineer Booker T. Jones conceived BaldHeadDread, who garnered significant exposure when they scored the movie soundtrack for Ragdoll. Both projects were stepping stones to help him launch his solo venture. But it was Brotha Bill’s extraordinary stage performance playing Marvin Gaye that continues to bolster his fan base and has led to television and film appearances.
Frequently billed as the featured act, spoken word connoisseurs have savored their first exposure to a phenomenon in the making. The ecstatic energy he displays regardless of the audience size is what club promoters covet. “Keep It Real Brotha Bill” is one of the hooks chanted by the performer as he ascends upon the stage. He allows his band a few moments of the spotlight as they entice the crowd with their fierce head-bopping funk. Brotha Bill’s versatility is evident in the range of songs he selects to perform at a given venue. As part of his unveiling, he has remained true to his genre of soul/funk but the talented singer/songwriter has penned songs for movie soundtracks and can hold his own if challenged to freestyle. Change is a throwback to What’s Going On by his inspiration Marvin Gaye. Oh Baby is a revival of the uncelebrated bonding between close male friends as they ad-lib about the nuances of relationships. “I love the way my baby treats me/Even though my hair is nappy.” Brotha Bill’s debut CD will showcase the dynamic blend of smooth grooves and conscious-raising lyrics with appreciated tracks such as You and I, Refine, and Feel the Funk.
Brotha Bill is at a crescendo literally and figuratively. He will continue live performances in the Los Angeles and Chicago areas for the duration of 2002 with an ensuing national tour planned for the second quarter of 2003.

Jackie Boyz
The sultry sounds of R&B mixed with modern day music complete this triple threat duo, Jackie Boyz. Their ability to write, sing and perform has paved the way for their current success. Currently working with Producers, Songwriters such as Frannie Golde, Troy Taylor, Brian Michael Cox, Alex Cantrell & Walter Milsap to name a few , they have proved their talents ensure hits and they are highly sought after, knowing that they bring success to each of the projects they are involved with.
Born and raised in Savannah Georgia, their inspiration and love for music was instilled in them from their mother Jackie Battey. They were exposed to the old sounds of Motown, like Marvin Gaye, Temptations & Al Green. Based on their old school roots and new school interests the Jackie Boyz developed their own sound. At a very early age, tragedy had touched Carlos and Steven’s life by losing their mother Jackie to cancer, after this the boyz decided to dedicate their music careers to their mother and named the group Jackie Boyz.
The Jackie Boyz headed out to Los Angeles shortly after the changes in their life and immediate joined a group called “Remedy” and started touring with the Funk Brothers, sang backup for Smokey Robinson and wrote songs with Blu Cantrell. Shortly after the tour, the group decided to do solo projects and the Jackie Boyz began their career as a duo.
Jackie Boyz have now teamed up with the powerful management team of Baby G Music, guided by award winning manager Rachel Noelle and they are preparing for a domestic tour in 08’. Their style and sound has captured the eyes and ears of the industry and their ability to sing, write and dance will prove why their talents separate them from the rest.
The Jackie Boyz inspiration in life is to carry on the memory of their mother through their music and to touch the hearts and souls of their fans…..Southern Style.
